How Creating This Painting Brought me Back to Myself

I’ve been feeling a lot lately. A LOT.

In fact, I was feeling so stuck and anxious that I reached for my copy of A New Earth. I haven’t touched it in years, but deep down, I knew I needed a reset. I needed the reminder that I was creating my own suffering.

It worked almost immediately.

I had been getting so wrapped up in the "shoulds"—what should be happening in my life, in my family’s lives, and in the world. I was spiraling into deep stress, almost to the point of panic. But the second I reminded myself that peace is available the moment I recognize the ego’s grip...whooosh. The peace actually entered.

Right after that, I caught a few Martha Beck podcasts. She reminded me of something I already knew but had forgotten: I know what’s best for me. I know it deep inside, beyond words, beyond reason, and certainly beyond culture.

What I know is this: I am meant to make art.

I am meant to be the peace and bring the peace. It’s the only real way to help this troubled world. One person living in consciousness ripples outward, even if you never leave your house. My deepest desire is that my art brings that same ripple of peace into your home.

The day I felt that "knowing" is the day I started this painting. It’s part of the Hope Collection, releasing March 20.

As I worked on these colors and layers, I felt the shift. A deep certainty that this is it for me. Yes, I have a full-time job, but that job is simply in service of this deeper calling: spreading peace through my own consciousness and the work I create.
